As an immediate measure to curb the spread of Covid-19, most educational institutions have been shut since March, operating only through online classes. But what does this mean for students from poorer sections who do not have access to high-speed internet and basic equipment like laptops, tablets, or smartphones?
Sadly, the bleak truth is that this is causing students across India to drop out of school, denting more than a decade of gains in enrolment made through schemes such as the Sarva Shiksha Abhiyaan (SSE), Right To Education Act (RTE) and the mid-day meal program. Worse still, to prevent their children from leaving school, poor parents may sell precious assets, pushing them further into poverty.
It is heartbreaking that the destruction caused by Covid-19 is affecting the future of India’s youth, where a student is deprived of education solely because he or she does not have access to a smartphone, tablet, laptop or a computer to attend online classes.
How Right To Live is helping:
Right To Live has had a history of being the first responder to any crisis that affects children or their community adversely. We recognize the social gap in access to technology that exists and attempt to bridge this gap through our Used Digital Device donation drive.
Our team is collecting devices from individuals and corporates to donate to these students and give them a chance to fulfill their ambitions. We implore you to get in touch with us to donate your old digital devices that are unused but still in working condition. Remember, a simple device can open the doors of knowledge for a child and transform their lives.
If you have a digital device that can make a difference in the life of a child and their community, contact us at:
