Help Harshitha for BMT Treatment:
Harshitha, d/o Basavaraju, is a thirteen year old active and smart girl. Her father is vegetable vender and mother, a garment worker in Bangalore.Unfortunately, she was diagnosed with Hodkinson’s Lymphoma, stage IV during 2017.Though she was treated at Kidwai Memorial Cancer Institute, Bangalore, her condition remained non-responsive, and Bone Marrow transplantation was the only hope for her survival. It was the help of NGOs that helped her take up further treatment at St John’s Medical College Hospital. But Rs 10 to 12 lakhs of expenses was un-thinkable to the family. We ran a social media campaign for her and could raise Rs 6.7 lakh funds.
It was all a success story for the first three months after BMT done in August 2018 for her. She responded quite well and recovered very quickly. Doctor even advised her to join the school from second semester. When it was time for a big relief, suddenly a small nodule on her head, a swelling near the ear created enough suspicion and unfortunately, the biopsy report in the late November confirmed that her fight against cancer is not over. Like an adamant opponent, it is back with a relapse, which is very rare after BMT.
The family is devastated with disappointed. Doctor’s assurance that there is still another protocol that can be tried to save her life is a ray of hope, before Harshitha would slip into hopelessness. It has been planned to use an imported drug for chemotherapy, each vial of it costs Rs 1.65 lakhs and depending on the response, number of chemos she requires will be decided. Hence, this is an appeal to raise Rs 12 lakhs in the first phase of treatment.
Unlike in other diseases, with cancer, it is not one time fight and all smiles later. Our role is to provide the long term financial and emotional support against the disease that tries to return with all its vengeance. So, we have taken the challenge is to stand by her so long as she needs.
Our hopes are to bring the smile back on her and her parents’ face, with all your generous contributions.
