Shabana, aged 40, is undergoing treatment for throat cancer at Kidwai Hospital Bangalore since May 2018. Shabana was leading a normal life with her husband and two beautiful daughters until April 2018, when she started complaining about symptoms like pain and lumps near the throat. With the support of her husband, she consulted a local doctor Bangalore, where she was diagnosed with throat cancer. Her husband deserted her soon after hearing about her sickness. She is presently living with her brother, who is already supporting his own family with meagre income. Recently she underwent surgery with the help of financial support extended by her brother. However, she requires continued treatment costing approximately INR 2,00,000/-. The doctors have suggested that she may need to undergo another surgery.
The total expenses incurred to date are Rs 6 lakhs inclusive of surgery, chemotherapy, and radiation therapy, which will be followed by a PET scan costing approximately INR 1.25 lakhs. Shabana’s brother has been managing the expenses by borrowing from his friends and relatives.
