Ajay Shanbhag, a 16-year-old young boy, is a resident of Byndoor Taluk of Udupi district in the state of Karnataka. Ajay has been suffering from Hypersplenism (overactive spleen) since birth. Owing to the severity of this illness he stopped going to school earlier this year.

After a detailed consultation with a specialist at the KMC Hospital, Mangalore, he has been informed that his liver is enlarged and he needs surgery with immediate effect. This is an expensive surgery costing 10 lakhs.

Ajay comes from a financially disadvantaged family. His father, who earlier worked at a hotel, is currently unemployed and his mother is a homemaker. They have a small agricultural land which is their only source of livelihood. Thus, the family is now facing difficulties in gathering the required money for their son’s treatment.
