In age of 13 Mahalakshmi got Type 1 diabetes for the past 4 years. She comes from an extremely poor background; both her parents are poor laborers near Salem. She has extremely brittle diabetes with glucoses between 30-600 mgs/dl in spite of being on four times a day of insulin. Family has no resources to support her medical treatment and she is currently being supported by Idhayangal Charitable Trust. She would be an excellent candidate for insulin pump and doing very well with the trial pump.
Doctor’s recommendation: (Dr Krishnan Swaminathan) Mahalakshmi is an ideal candidate for insulin pump therapy as her glucoses are uncontrolled on multiple daily injections with a huge chance of major hospital admissions and kidney failure. Cost of one Medtronic 715 Insulin pump: Rs 65,000 (Discounted price only for Idhayangal Trust, normally cost Rs 1.59 lacs).
How Right To Live is helping?
As mentioned above, Mahalakshmi’s family members cannot afford the cost of this insulin pump. The ‘Right To Live’ team is trying to raise funds for her continued treatment.
Please remember that 100% of your donation goes to Mahalakshmi’s treatment. We don’t use any part of donations for admin expenses since those costs are covered by our trustees. The payment is released directly to the hospital and not given to the patient either. So, please come forward and lend a helping hand in supporting Mahalakshi to receive proper medical treatment.
